TRY THIS for Design Teachers
Here are some things you can try as a design teacher to make for an interesting critique.
5 THINGS DESIGN TEACHERS CAN TRY:
1- Make an audio recording of a critique that you lead, then analyze the recording to learn about the ways you ask questions.
2- When leading similar critiques, change one thing to see how that affects the outcome of the class. Write about your findings in an article.
3- Display the designs according to different themes, including themes of subject matter, similarity of media, or some other organizing principle, such as chronologically.
4- Critique the design media themselves. Ask the class, "What are the advantages/disadvantages? Are there limitations? Are there wrong ways to use any particular medium?"
5- Host a pretend radio show, in which a student guest must describe and critique designs that the rest of the class cannot see. Select "callers" to ask questions to the guest of your radio show.
